Univ. of Kentucky Observatory - c.1954- U.K. observatory was of approximately f:10 with an eight-inch objective, and included an 80mm sighting scope. It was thought to be of Austrian origin, and purchased for $2,800. There were four eyepieces for 60x, 120x, 240x, and 360x. The 60x eyepiece was an amateur-manufactured project by students Ed Shaw and Joe Palmer during 1953 under the tutorship of Dr. Donald Rose, Dept of Mathematics and Physics. A basement laboratory included support for photographics, and also a Foucalt's pendulum affixed within the main column base of the telescope. The observatory was a popular evening field trip for Lexington school children, and it was also open to the public during summer Thursday evenings.pop
